Life and Health

Some are all gaga over the US House voting to approve a massive overhaul of healthcare. I applaud them and the lone Republican who decided that it was time.

But I am a realist.

I sadly think it will be for naught. The Senate will flounder as the right wings of both parties would rather spend $ on war and death than life and health so they can feel big about themselves.

Would be wonderful, but in this polarized, rudderless nation I don't think much of anything will be accomplished soon.

I would love to be proved wrong.

I agree. I wonder what all the celebration and self-congratulation was for this weekend in the House. They've only completed "a" step in a long process.

I really wish we could even have a conversation about restructuring/redesigning our Congress for the 21st century. The fact that one lone senator can block legislation that two-thirds of the country's citizens want is insane.

But yes, the Senate will kick it 'round and 'round until it dies. It may make it to a vote, but it won't win. If the final solution is for a impoverished middle class -- what's left of it -- to be forced to buy health shitty insurance from for-profit companies who don't think women have plumbing or gays have visitation/POA rights, then the Democrats are looking at consecutive major losses at both the Congressional and executive level. And to think, we've wasted a year on this while Obama's worked so hard... to lower his golf handicap!
